Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

What an excellent experience watching this film was. We threw it in and from the opening menu screen I knew it was going to be something special. The film is adapted from a children’s book of the same name, but they took some liberties with the original story as they adapted it for the screen. The story follows a young inventor who’s trying to make it big with his inventions. After my shortfalls he finally lands it big with a machine that turns water in food. When this machine is placed up into the atmosphere it can make particular foods rain down from the sky.

This film was a lot of fun all the way around. There were genuinely hilarious moments throughout the whole picture. From the thought spewing monkey, to the funny father character, to Bruce Campbell playing the get-rich-quick town mayor who develops an eating problem.

The best part of the film in my opinion was the first act. It was very reminiscent of the first act in WALL-E or even MAGNOLIA. I love montage sequences with tight narration over the scenes – perfect. And another part of the film that blew me away was the extremities used in regard to color. Every scene was riddled with an explosion of every dab possibly from the color wheel. And they were layered so beautifully that you almost felt like you were on acid while watching certain scenes. Quite the spectacle to behold.

Such a great date night movie or one for anyone that appreciates an excellent cinematic experience. The writing, direction, animation, color, and the score was absolutely superb. So far this is a front runner for the best film I’ve seen all year.

Rating: 9.8/10
