Alien 3

Ok, let’s get this POS out of the way already. Sadly, it was directed by my homeboy – David Fincher. My all time favorite director. And to his credit, this is the only tick in his filmography’s armor – I even really like PANIC ROOM. Yeah I said that. Deal with it. Ripley arrives at an all male correction facility and has to wait for her rescue for several days. During these days the Alien sprouts from a Rottweiler and wrecks havoc on the men there. Unfortunately for them they have no weapons, so they have to find other ways to bring the monster down.

The movie is sloppy put together. The final act is a bunch of guys running throughout the tunnel system of the prison while the Alien chases them. That’s honestly the climax of the film? Grrreat. Again, we don’t care about any of the characters. Even the one that we should somewhat care about – Ripley’s love interest kind of – when he dies there really isn’t any emotional response from the audience.

The CG is also terrible in this film. Every time we see the Alien from a farther back shot it looks awkward and unrealistic. It looks like a small scorpion dog or something. I miss the days when they had a guy in an Alien suit – that’s when it really worked. The story is weak, the characters weaker, but the locale was well done, other than that the direction was a non issue and Fincher was wasted, or did Fincher waste?
