Going in to this film it had a lot of promise. I mean the first scene is b-film legend Bruce Campbell in an elevator with Tiffany Amber Theisan and they are eaten alive by rabid bats. However, that scene alerted the audience to the fact that this was going to be an awfully campy film. But there are a lot of first class actors in this sequel and maybe this sequel will make up for all those other terrible sequels… maybe…
From Dusk Till Dawn 2 Trailer
There is a lot of cutesy camerawork in this film. Just to list a few that stuck out to me – camera on top of fan, on hood of car, underneath the dog bowl when he drinks, a shot from the ground with the lens covered red to represent the bats blood, the shot from inside the shotguns barrel, and it was used as a POV when Je’sus was doing pushups – And that’s only in the first act or so.
The story is pretty awful and it even hurts to think about it. The acting isn’t horrible, but it still lends itself to campy b-filmage. The special effects aren’t mind blowing and are kind of distracting when the bats fly in groups – you can totally tell how simulated it really is. The makeup however is excellent and the attached monster sound effects are great.
There is some intentional humor riddled throughout the film. “He even shot the guy who brings the donuts.” Haha. And when they are talking about the “film: that’s on in the motel room, or when the one guy comes out of the house with the fishing gear. Maybe it’s just me, but I love when the bat appears outside the shower curtain while that girl is showering. Lol.
